For weather cancellations\, follow us on Facebook. \nGet Tickets \nEvergreen was started 144 years ago on September 28\, 1880\, when a group of prominent\, civic-minded gentlemen decided to start a cemetery for the benefit of the community. Less than a decade after the Great Fire of 1901\, on December 7\, 1910\, the Evergreen Cemetery Association\, a not-for-profit organization\, was formed. Arthur G. Cummer became the Association’s first president. The 167-acre cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the resting place of Jacksonville’s founder\, Isaiah D. Hart\, as well as five Florida governors\, four U.S. Senators\, 10 Jacksonville mayors\, two Pulitzer Prize winners\, and passengers from the Titanic. \nThank you to our sponsor:
